More than 25-years’ experience in project and programme management in research, regulation and commercial consultancy with project values ranging from <£5K to >£1M, and responsible for annual departmental net revenues of $20M.

  • Successful in an operational role leading a UK team of 30 staff and 300+ staff globally, with a strategic focus on the preparation of a long-term corporate strategy, business growth plan and business cases for innovation projects.

  • Day-to-day client-facing project manager coordinating project teams, partnerships and multi-company consortia.

  • Project Director responsible for overall programme delivery, risk management, problem solving, reporting and quality assurance. Familiar working to urgent deadlines or multi-year timeframes.

  • Routinely worked across business units (geographies) and driving cross-departmental teams with a range of skills and experience.

  • Regular bid writer scoping goals, approaches, roles, schedules and budgets using the appropriate toolsets.

Nature Positive Advisory

Pioneer in approaches to measure biodiversity and ecosystem value for setting targets, working closely with clients and stakeholders to inform strategy and reporting aligned with SBTN, TNFD and CSRD. Member of the UK Green Building Council programmes on Embodied Ecological Impacts and Nature Positive.

  • Successfully passed the SBTN’s Train-the-Trainer programme

Biodiversity Corporate Strategy

  • Technical Director for the development of a global pharmaceutical company biodiversity strategy and preparation for reporting under the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in 2022/23.

Creating Positive Biodiversity Impact for a global pharmaceutical firm

  • Project Director in 2021-2024 to deliver the client’s positive biodiversity programme at company-owned sites to meet science-based targets for nature (SBTN). Developed baselines, mapped enhancement opportunities, and Biodiversity Management & Monitoring Plans across almost 50 sites. Landscape design and enhancement has been undertaken at several sites informing their SBTN strategy enabling long-term biodiversity delivery towards Nature Positive goals. Progress tracked by the team and weekly client meetings.

  • Project Director to inform the biodiversity business case for returning a UK site to nature.

Nature Inclusive Design in Offshore Wind Farms

  • Since 2022, Project Director, consortium management, bid writing for new wind farm lease competitions for several clients. The projects included the provision of technical expertise in marine ecosystem risk mitigation and restoration, waste innovation, and development of €50M+ monitoring strategies.

Biodiversity vision, goals and roadmaps

  • Technical expert in the review of biodiversity and natural capital frameworks / tools to inform Chemical Industry Federation Finland member’s approaches to targets and roadmaps (2020-2021).

Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PiE)

  • Project Director for the development of a PiE dashboard for two global pharmaceutical companies, including literature searches for monitoring data, QA and water risk analysis (2023-2025).

  • Programme Director for two global pharmaceutical companies’ active ingredient registration, wastewater effluent permitting, CSRD, and PiE programmes.

Ecosystem services-based scenario analysis

  • Holistic approaches to crop production based on ecosystem services analysis for Plant Protection Product (PPP) manufacturers and CropLife Europe, since 2010. Project Director in developing frameworks and valuing the use of PPP or alternative agricultural practices in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Poland, The Netherlands and UK using benefit-cost analysis to identify ‘best environmental’ crop production scenarios to inform risk management decisions in orchards and arable crops.

Various EU REACH chemical risk assessments

  • Lead ecotoxicologist for several hundred registration dossiers under 2010, 2013 and 2018 deadlines for metals and many complex organic substances, including endocrine disruptors. Risk assessments included PNEC development using statistical and deterministic methods. Recent focus on authorisation and evidence for legal counsel in Board of Appeal Hearings.

Ecological Risk, Environmental Damage & Liability, Restoration

As a technical expert, advise has been given on many eco-risk assessments advising industry and regulators across many sectors and ecosystems, relating to pollution incidents and permit excursions, historical contamination, liability and remediation. As a regulator, managed a 5-year programme to develop a national ecological risk assessment framework at the Environment Agency. In 2017, a similar framework was delivered on behalf of the Romanian government. Recent work includes advising on several enforcement undertakings and coordination of a multi-year river restoration programme following a major pollution incident.

  • Expert advisor to regulators on the potential release and ecological impacts of DDT contamination from land to sea in a proposed coastal realignment project as a nature-based solution to alleviate rising sea levels.

  • Environmental damage assessment and remedial strategy, enforcement undertaking submission, litigation defence, and restoration following a permit excursion from a manufacturing facility leading to a 40 km fish kill incident.

  • More than 700 publications reviewed to assess potential risks to marine ecosystems from a historical permitted discharge of waste effluent from a metal processing facility.

  • Assessment of ecosystem services impacts and recovery, identifying and monitoring priority natural assets, and integrating this information into planning and policy for hurricane resilience for the JNCC on behalf of the governments of Anguilla and Bermuda.
